What is Nephrology, Hypertension, and Kidney Care?

Nephrologists specialize in the area of internal medicine that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of kidney diseases. The kidney performs many critical functions; therefore, nephrologists must maintain expertise in primary kidney disorders and how these disorders impact the rest of the body. The Nephrologist will help patients maintain healthy kidney function and be called upon to manage kidneys that have advanced disease.

What is Internal Medicine?

Internal Medicine physicians (also called “Internists”) serve as primary care physicians for adults. Patients with heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, obesity, and chronic lung disease are routinely treated by Internists. An Internist may either consult with doctors in other fields of medicine or may be called to consult on a patient by another specialist. Internists are trained to treat numerous common and complex medical issues. They equipped to solve puzzling diagnostic problems and can handle severe chronic illnesses and situations where several different conditions may strike simultaneously.
